PALM Keynote Address

Time: 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM

AI-Powered Efficiency: Transforming Studio Operations

Synopsis:

Donal Whelan and Gethin John return to discuss how artificial intelligence has quietly become part of their daily workflow.

Gethin will share how he uses AI as a listening assistant in the mastering room, and how it helps him write scripts that automate file handling tasks - auto-levelling, metadata and master file formats.

Donal will talk about living with an AI personal assistant in the office—helping manage his organisational system, helping build a business development pipeline, and mining decades of studio data. He'll also touch on AI as an improvisational teacher for learning electronics, coding, and even how to use an oscilloscope.

Along the way they'll wrestle with some uncomfortable questions. Why do we keep using tools that are wrong half the time? What happens when we encounter something that speaks without thinking and reflects without being present? They'll argue that we are, perhaps, evolutionarily unprepared for this particular trick of language. The addiction is real.

The session will be practical, sceptical, and grounded in daily studio life.
