Monty Sharma

Music Composer | Background Score Composer

Arranger

Acclaimed composer Monty Sharma is one of the most respected names in Indian film music, known for his powerful background scores, melodic compositions, and large-scale orchestral arrangements across Bollywood cinema. With a career spanning over two decades, Monty has contributed significantly to the soundtracks and background music of several landmark Indian films.

Born into a musically rich family in Mumbai, Monty Sharma began learning music at the age of five under the guidance of his grandfather, Pandit Ram Prasad Sharma. He is also the nephew of legendary composer Pyarelal Sharma of the iconic Laxmikant–Pyarelal duo. His early exposure to orchestration and film scoring shaped his deep understanding of melody, arrangement, and cinematic emotion.

Monty started his professional journey as a keyboard player with Laxmikant–Pyarelal during the making of Mr. India at the age of sixteen. Over the years, he collaborated with some of the industry’s leading composers including R.D. Burman, Rajesh Roshan, Nadeem–Shravan, Jatin–Lalit, Ismail Darbar, and Sanjeev Darshan before emerging as an independent composer and background score specialist.

He gained widespread recognition for his background score work in films such as Devdas, Black, Veer, and Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, while his music direction for Saawariya established him as a composer with a distinctive melodic identity. His body of work also includes films such as Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Apne, U Me Aur Hum, Heroes, Gadar 2, and several other notable productions across Hindi cinema.

Monty Sharma’s work has earned him several prestigious honours, including the Filmfare Award, IIFA Award, Zee Cine Award, and Screen Award for Best Background Score for Black. He also received the Filmfare R.D. Burman Award for New Music Talent for Saawariya.

Known for blending Indian musical sensibilities with grand cinematic orchestration, Monty Sharma continues to be celebrated for his emotionally driven compositions, detailed arrangements, and contribution to contemporary Indian film music.
