After completing his Major in Chemistry from Ruia College, Mumbai, Abhay Rumde pursued Sound Engineering, driven by his passion for music and training as a tabla player under the late Ustad Allarakha and late Pt. Sadashiv Pawar. He completed his course in "Sound Recording and Reproduction" from Mumbai University in 1998 and began his career as Junior Sound Engineer at Purple Haze Studios, Bandra.
Abhay has worked with renowned music directors including Vishal-Shekhar, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Pt. Hridaynath Mangeshkar, Anu Malik, John McLaughlin, and DSP. He has also contributed to major advertising campaigns with top agencies like O&M, McCann Erickson, and Lintas, collaborating with legends such as the late Piyush Pandey, Prasoon Pandey, Pralhad Kakkar, and Bharat Bala.
His notable film credits include Kal Ho Naa Ho, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, Rock On!!, Don 2, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Raazi, Taare Zameen Par, and Sitaare Zameen Par. In 2009, he won the IIFA Award for Best Song Recording for Rock On!!. In 2026, he received the Maharashtra State Government's Anna Sathe International Film Festival Award and Nagpur Chalchitra Foundation Award for Best Sound Design for Deva Aaj Pan Vhay. He has also won album awards for Two States, My Name Is Khan, and Dil Dhadakne Do.
Abhay has recorded with legendary artists including the late Asha Bhosle, late S.P. Balasubrahmanyam, late KK, Shankar Mahadevan, Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghoshal, and even Sachin Tendulkar on "Cricket Wali Beat." He continues to work on dialogue dubbing with top actors including Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Ranveer Singh, among others.
